🌟 Park and Stride: A practical option for families getting to school

Can’t walk or cycle the whole way to school?

🌟 Park and Stride lets families drive part of the journey, then walk the rest

Schools can implement a Park & Stride initiative at their schools. In general terms, all you have to do is ask families that live too far away to park a 10–15-minute walk from the school.

See the Green Schools How to Guide for implementing Park & Stride at your school

“Park & Stride just adds 15 minutes to my morning, but it means my child is more awake and we get to chat much more than if we just stayed in the car” Feedback from Fingal parent

Why it works- for schools, children and families:

🌟 Helps children wake up, move, and feel ready to learn

🌟 Creates safer, less congested school entrances

🌟 Builds independence, confidence and road safety skills

🌟 Offers quality time for families before school starts

Park & Stride Success Stories:

  • In Fingal, schools like St. Oliver Plunkett’s and St. Andrew’s NS (Malahide) have seen real improvements in road safety and air quality.
  • In Castlebar, Co. Mayo, Park and Stride schemes led to increased physical activity and reduced congestion.
