What is Active Travel?

What is Active Travel?

Active Travel is travelling with a purpose using your own energy which usually means walking or cycling as part of a journey. Fingal County Council is working to build Active Travel into everyday life as part of normal daily routines. We are investing in infrastructure and initiatives designed to promote Active Travel. Protected cycle lanes are one of a series of measures we are installing to make walking and cycling safer and more attractive for people of all ages across Fingal.

Why Choose Active Travel?

  • Active Travel is convenient. Walking or cycling delivers you right to your destination affordably and quickly.

  • Active Travel is inclusive. Everyone can walk or wheel for some journeys when high quality facilities are in place.

  • Active Travel is a positive climate action. Walking or wheeling instead of travelling by car is a great way to reduce our impact on the climate.

  • Active Travel supports healthy, happy communities by making it safer to walk and wheel in our towns and villages.

  • Fingal County Council is investing in the supports needed to make Active Travel the first choice for local journeys.
