Architectural Heritage Fund Stitch in Time Grant 2026
This annual grant scheme is designed to help owners of historic buildings, protected structures and buildings in ACAs with the cost of small repairs and maintenance work.
The Conservation Office at Fingal County Council invites owners of historic buildings to apply for the Stitch in Time (SIT) conservation grant scheme.
This annual grant scheme is designed to help owners of historic buildings, protected structures and buildings in ACAs with the cost of small repairs and maintenance work. In 2026, the contribution of the Stitch in Time grant to provide funding aimed at enhancing the climate resilience of historic structures is being emphasised. Climate change is impacting weather patterns, and as global temperatures rise, we are seeing more frequent and intense weather and climate events. Future climate change projections for Ireland indicate an increase in winter Atlantic storms, increase in average temperatures, decreased summer rainfall leading to droughts and the risk of wild fires, and increased winter rainfall causing flooding.
For owners of historic buildings, these changes present a particular challenge. Regular maintenance and repairs to roofs, chimneys, and rainwater goods are an essential first step towards protecting against winter storm damage.
Helena Bergin & Bronagh Lanigan, Fingal’s Architectural Conservation Officers, have witnessed the expansion of the scheme over the last decade since it was first created. Helena comments that “Fingal’s Stitch in Time Grant has proven to be a resounding success, providing financial support for owners or guardians of historic structures in the Fingal area to carry out routine maintenance, urgent repairs or temporary holding works as they arise, or to commission condition reports by conservation professionals to advise on appropriate repair methods and materials. We are fortunate that the scheme, as it currently operates, allows for applications to be submitted throughout the year, until the annual budget is fully allocated. Funding is still available for 2026. We wish in particular to raise awareness that the scheme can help owners with works to ready their historic buildings for increased rain fall or to address storm damage.”
Funding of up to 80% of the costs for works is available, with a maximum grant of €2,500. For more details on this scheme, please click here.
