Fingal Comhairle na nÓg
Fingal Comhairle na nÓg is the youth council for the Fingal area. There is a Comhairle na nÓg / child and youth council in each of 31 local authorities around the country. Comhairle na nÓg is the main forum in for young people to have their say on major issues of concern, both a local and national level. It makes sure that the views and opinions of young people are taken on board in the creation and change of the policies and services affecting them.
The Comhairle na nÓg in Fingal has been coordinated by Foróige since 2018, they work closely with Fingal County Council’ Community Development and Inclusion division to ensure the facilitation of a youth council here in Fingal. Additionally, there is a Comhairle na nÓg steering committee which is made up of local councillors, members of the Fingal Comhairle na nÓg, and representatives from statutory agencies.
The Fingal Comhairle na nÓg meets monthly, where the young people work on annual projects and participate in training workshops. Comhairle na nÓg is also an important consultative form. Local and national agencies often consult with the Comhairle na nÓg to get the opinions and inputs of those same young people. This is especially beneficial when the decisions relate to issues important to young people such as mental health awareness or youth facilities.
