The Prior Warning Notice issued for Velvet Strand Portmarnock on July 14 has now been removed following test results of excellent water quality.

Please be advised that the Prior Warning Notice issued for Velvet Strand Portmarnock on July 14 has now been removed following test results of excellent water quality.

The bathing water quality result collected on 16th July, 2025 at Velvet Strand Portmarnock has met the standard of “excellent”.

All ten identified beaches have met the standard of “excellent” and "good"  water quality for the July 7-8th samples, and Malahide also excellent.  Balbriggan Excellent in results from 14th July.

Next sample collection is planned for 21 July (Balbriggan to Donabate beaches) and 22nd July (Malahide to Claremont beach, Howth).  

Members of the public can check for water quality at any of the monitored bathing waters in Ireland in advance by accessing the EPA website at www.beaches.ie or by checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.
