Another successful year for Fingal in the 2026 Tidy Towns Awards

Fingal County Council is thrilled to congratulate all the dedicated volunteers whose efforts helped make 2026 another outstanding year for Fingal in the National Tidy Towns Awards.

It was another hugely successful performance for Fingal in the 2026 National Tidy Towns Awards, with increased scores and medal successes recorded across the county.

This year, Ballinahown in Westmeath was named the overall national winner out of more than 900 towns and villages competing in the prestigious competition. The continued popularity of the SuperValu TidyTowns Awards highlights the importance of community-led environmental initiatives throughout Ireland.

The commitment and hard work of Fingal's Tidy Towns groups were reflected in the results, with every committee achieving a higher score than in 2025. Skerries secured the County Second award and a Gold Medal, while Malahide earned County Third along with a Gold Medal. Swords also received a Gold Medal, while Balbriggan was awarded a Silver Medal. In addition, Lusk, Rush and Ballymun each achieved Bronze Medals.

Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tony Murphy, commented: "I would like to extend my congratulations to all of the Fingal Tidy Towns groups for their commitment and hard work throughout the year. Their dedication plays an important role in improving and maintaining local communities, while also helping to foster a strong culture of sustainability.”

“The continued success of Fingal’s groups and the recognition they receive through the national competition reflects the high standard of work being carried out across the county. I was especially pleased to see Skerries achieving second place in the county, finishing just one point behind the overall winner. Huge congratulations as well to Balrothery and Rush for doing so well, up an extra 19 points from last year."

There were several special award winners, with Rush winning third place in the EPA Circular Economy category, where Swords were also highly commended. Lusk were regional runners-up of the Midlands & East in the Waters and Communities Award, and Swords took first place in the category of Large Town/Large Urban Centre for the Sustainable Development Goals Award.

Sinéad Murphy, Director of Services, said: "It is wonderful to see Fingal’s Tidy Towns groups recognised for their outstanding achievements once again, with impressive results, special awards and medals earned across the county. The commitment and dedication of these volunteers make a big difference to their local areas, enhancing communities and helping to create a more sustainable Fingal. Fingal County Council’s Operations Department looks forward to continuing to support their valuable work."
