A quarter century of creativity as Draíocht celebrates 25 years
Draíocht Arts Centre has launched its 25th anniversary celebrations, marking a quarter-century at the heart of cultural life in Dublin 15. Hosted by the Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tony Murphy, the occasion was attended by President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly, as Special Guest of Honour, recognising Draíocht’s enduring contribution to the arts, artists and communities since opening in 2001.
Over the 25 years Draíocht has grown into one of Ireland’s leading multidisciplinary arts centres. Purpose-built for the Dublin 15 community, it features two theatres, galleries, workshop facilities, an artist's studio and café. The centre welcomes more than 50,000 visitors annually and has welcomed over one million visitors since opening.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tony Murphy, said: “Draíocht has been at the heart of cultural life in Fingal for 25 years, providing a welcoming space where creativity can flourish and where communities can come together through the arts. It is a privilege to mark this milestone and to celebrate the remarkable contribution Draíocht has made to generations of artists, audiences and young people.”
A highlight of the evening was the premiere of Without Distinction of Sex, co-produced by Draíocht and Once Off Productions as part of Dublin Theatre Festival 2026. The production celebrates 25 years of inspiring audiences, engaging communities and supporting artists.
Following the performance, President Connolly met with Draíocht staff, Once Off Productions, the creative team and cast behind the landmark production.
Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, said: “We are delighted to welcome President Connolly as we celebrate 25 years of Draíocht. This milestone reflects the support of our audiences, artists, partners and community, who have helped shape Draíocht into the vibrant cultural centre it is today. We look forward to continuing to inspire, engage and support creativity for generations to come.”
As Draíocht celebrates this significant milestone, it does so with a strong sense of purpose and possibility. Building on a legacy of artistic excellence and community engagement, the centre looks ahead to the next 25 years with a commitment to fostering creativity and empowering artists and ensuring that its impact is felt for generations to come.
