St Margaret’s Community Centre was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony and entertainment from the local school and dance groups
The addition of a vital community resource for the residents of St Margaret’s and surrounding areas has been marked, with the official opening of the St Margaret’s Community Centre. Following significant investment by Fingal County Council, the newly refurbished former Parish Hall will serve as a dedicated space for local clubs, groups, and activities for future generations.
The building was purchased in 2023 by Fingal County Council with the intention of developing a much-needed community facility for St Margaret’s. In order to help fund the acquisition, Fingal County Council was successful in an application for funding support from the Department of Rural and Community Development and Gaeltacht’s Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
Following the purchase, initial refurbishment works were carried out on the building which have now been completed. The final set of works to further enhance the building are set to be completed during 2026 into 2027.
St Margaret’s Community Centre was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tom O’Leary, Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, representatives of St Margaret’s Amenities CLG, local councillors, Fingal TDs and members of Fingal County Council’s Community Development Office.
Speaking at the opening, Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tom O’Leary said: "The official opening of St. Margaret's Community Centre marks a wonderful occasion for the area. The Council has invested significantly in this project and we’re proud to have ensured that this facility remains in community hands. This hall is more than just a building; it is a future hub for social interaction, learning, and cultural activities, and it underscores Fingal County Council's commitment to supporting our local communities”.
The day-to-day management and operation of the centre will be overseen by St Margaret’s Amenities CLG, a community organisation set up by the local community in 2024 with the support of Fingal County Council’s Community Development Office.
Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly added: "Community facilities play an essential role in fostering a sense of belonging and connectivity. By securing St. Margaret’s Parish Hall, we are providing a tangible asset that will greatly benefit local residents. We anticipate that this community facility will quickly become a vibrant focal point, supporting a wide array of local initiatives and enhancing the quality of life for all."
Erected in 1786, the building originally functioned as the parish church until the adjacent church opened. Over the decades it has served as the parish hall and a venue for dances, meetings, birthdays, and community gatherings.
