Opening of new Racecourse Community Centre in Baldoyle moves closer
Fingal County Council has been handed the keys to a new community centre ahead of it being fitted out
Fingal County Council has taken possession of the striking new Racecourse Community Centre Baldoyle following the key handover from Vision Contracting. The council will now undertake final commissioning and fit-out before confirming the centre’s official opening.
The centre will provide a modern, accessible hub for community, cultural, sport, recreation and learning activities. Strategically located within the Racecourse Park, Baldoyle, it is set to be a vibrant destination for residents, offering a diverse range of activities and services.
The €10 million Fingal County Council built facility represents a significant investment in the Baldoyle community and boasts a multi-purpose hall, a dance studio, community rooms, a coffee hub and dedicated changing facilities. The Racecourse Park is also set to received substantial investment over the coming years, with a new playground on the way, as well as football pitches, wildlife areas, car parking and other amenities.
“Today’s handover marks a proud and exciting milestone for Baldoyle,” said Mayor of Fingal, Tom O’Leary. “This new modern state of the art €10 million community centre will be a welcoming space where people of all ages can come together for sport, learning, and community life for many years to come.”
Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly commented: "Our focus now turns to the commissioning and fit-out of the centre. We are working to ensure that we can open the doors safely and smoothly for the Baldoyle community as soon as possible.”
The development of the Racecourse Community Centre underscores Fingal County Council's ongoing commitment to investing in community infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for its residents across the county.
Director of Housing and Community Development at Fingal County Council, Paul Carroll said: “This is a fantastic addition to the area, providing a much-needed contemporary space for social, recreational, and educational activities. We are incredibly proud of this project, and we look forward to seeing it thrive as a central part of community life.”
The building has been designed by an Integrated Design Team led by Henchion Reuter Architects and including Roughan O’Donovan Engineers, Matt O’Mahoney Associates, Walsh Associates Quantity Surveyors and Dermot Foley Landscape Architects. Construction was carried out by Vision Contracting.
