Fingal County Council welcomes the publication of the Railway Order for MetroLink by An Coimisiún Pleanála. The granting of planning permission for the project is a huge boost to the county,

The Council has been planning for MetroLInk for many years and has in place plans to facilitate the sustainable growth of Swords to 100,000 people with new homes and new jobs being delivered all along the Metro Economic Corridor from Santry to Lissenhall.

The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tom O’Leary, said: “This is a great day for Fingal, for Dublin and for Ireland. MetroLInk is a vital piece of transportation infrastructure that will transform North Dublin economically. It will provide a direct 25 minute rail link between Swords and Dublin City with trains every three minutes and capable of carrying up to 20,000 passengers per hour in each direction. It is a game-changer that will ease traffic congestion and finally deliver rail access to Dublin Airport.”

The Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, said: “The Council is well prepared for the arrival of MetroLInk and already has in place various Master Plans to facilitate the development of homes and economic activity along the route. We have worked closely with MetroLink to get to this point and we now look forward to working with them to finally deliver this much needed piece of strategic infrastructure.”

MetroLink will be 18.8km long and will run from Swords to Charlemont with 16 stations, seven of them in Fingal. The Fingal stations will be Estuary, Seatown, Swords Central, Fosterstown, Dublin Airport, Dardistown and Northwood. It will offer higher frequency services and carry more people over shorter distances. MetroLink will also be fully segregated from all other road users and will be fully automated.
