More funding made available for groups as part of Fingal’s Summer Project initiative

Fingal County Council has confirmed a major boost to its annual Summer Project initiative, allocating almost €89,000 in funding to support 41 projects across the county in 2025. This marks a substantial rise from last year’s €62,000, which supported 32 groups.
The initiative, which runs during the summer months, provides a 20-hour programme of supervised recreational and educational activities aimed at young people. The funding increase reflects the growing numbers of participating children taking part across the county.
The projects promote community engagement and support the development of local groups and resources, catering to children from a wide range of communities and socio-economic backgrounds.
Welcoming the announcement, the Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Brian McDonagh said: "This funding demonstrates Fingal County Council’s continued commitment to supporting young people and fostering inclusive, vibrant communities. These projects not only provide enriching experiences during the summer but will help to build lasting connections and resilience among local groups."
In 2025, the Council is also piloting a new approach to support small-scale, volunteer-led summer projects. This pilot aims to encourage greater participation and lay the groundwork for a more comprehensive programme in 2026 and beyond.
Fingal County Council’s Director of Community Development, Paul Carroll, added: "We are delighted that local councillors across the county supported an increased level of funding support this year to help further engagement across the county. This additional funding will support approximately 1,800 young people this summer, helping to ensure they have access to safe, structured, and enjoyable activities within their communities this summer."
The Summer Project initiative continues to be a cornerstone of Fingal County Council’s commitment to youth development and community engagement
