eCargo bikes are ideally suited for use by business and community organisations. They offer faster delivery in busy urban settings, with no fuel costs, no need for car insurance and no parking costs. There is also no requirement for a licensed driver, meaning that people of all ages can use the bike. Most importantly of all, organisations that use eCargo are making a better choice for the environment and contributing to positive climate action by reducing emissions.

Fingal County Council today launched two new schemes, inviting businesses and organisations to apply online and join the eCargo revolution.

Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Adrian Henchy says “Now is the time for businesses to make the leap to sustainable transport. eCargo is affordable, better for the planet and a great way to get your business noticed. I am really looking forward to seeing more eCargo bikes become a feature of doing business in Fingal.”

The eCargo Bike Trial scheme is seeking applications from businesses and organisations who would like to try out use of an eCargo bike for 6-12 months. The successful applicant will receive an eyecatching eCargo bike branded with their own logo. Qualifying applicants must provide secure storage for the vehicle, take responsibility for charging the bike and should be excited about sustainability and cycling!

Interested in eCargo but not sure you need a full-time vehicle? The second scheme introduced today may be ideal for you! The eCargo Hosting Scheme invites those who would like to host an eCargo bike on their premises for their own use and use by others.

Applications for the eCargo Hosting Scheme are encouraged from businesses and organisations that have space to securely store an eCargo bike and where charging facilities are available. The successful applicant will have use of the eCargo bike and can also advertise it to individuals, other local business and community organisations for pick up from their premises. This is a perfect opportunity to become an advocate for cycling in your local area and provide a real community service with no liability for bike loss or user injury, while also drawing others to your premises. Fingal County Council will provide an app-based booking system to be managed by the host.

Arsa Príomhfheidhmeannach Chomhairle Contae Fhine Gall, AnnMarie Farrelly, “Tá gnólachtaí ar fud an Chontae ag smaoineamh ar conas is féidir leo a gcuid chostas a laghdú agus rogha ar leith a chur ar fáil agus iad ag iarracht fanacht iomaíoch. Tugann scéimeanna seo na rothar rLastais deis iontach chun trial a bhaint as an iompar inbhuanaithe atá níos saoire lena fheidhmiú agus a laghdaíonn astuithe an charbóin.”

Deir an Stiúrthóir Aeráide, Comhshaoil agus an Taistil Gníomhaí, David Storey, “Chuir mórán gnólachtaí tús lena gcuid ghnó inár mbailte agus inár sráidbhailte fadó le seachadadh áitiúil ar rothar nó ar chos. Anois tá an módh oibre sin á uasghrádú againn don 21ú haois le méadú ar chumas na n-earraí a iompar agus le turais áitiúla níos tapúla a chur ar fáil. Cuireann sé sceitimíní orainn a fheiceáil cad iad cineálacha na ngnólachtaí agus na n-eagraíochtaí a chuirfidh an iarratas isteach agus conas a éiríonn leis an rLastas a leithéid a dhéanamh dóibh. Táimid ag tnúth go háirithe le roinnt gnólachtaí a fheiceáil ag éirí ina n-abhcóidí an rLastais mar atá an scéal in áiteanna eile san Eoraip.”
