Seatown Road to Estuary Road, Swords Active Travel Scheme
To make Seatown Road safer for everyone, particularly those walking and cycling, Fingal County Council is introducing new cycle lanes, traffic calming and road layout improvements from the entrance to Seatown Road at Seatown Roundabout to the roundabout at the junction with Estuary Road. John Cradock Ltd. have been appointed as the contractor for these works and works began February 2026.
These works form part of Fingal County Council’s Active Travel Programme and are designed to link and facilitate active travel between Malahide and Swords. The project aims to make Seatown Road safer for all road users, particularly those walking and cycling. Improvements will include the installation of cycle lanes, traffic calming measures, and road layout enhancements from the entrance to Seatown Road (at Seatown Roundabout), to the roundabout at the junction with Estuary Road.
Works include:
- Adding cycle lanes on both sides of the road
- Giving higher priority to those cycling and walking in the area
- Widening the footpath under the bridge to make room for those walking
- Upgrading roundabouts at Swords Business Campus and Estuary Road to cycle-friendly roundabouts with safe pedestrian crossings on all exits
Update 17 April 2026
- Two-way traffic will be maintained
- New footpaths opening on the north side of Seatown Road
- Ducting/drainage/footpath works ongoing
- Nightworks planned for 23 April. Stop/go shuttle system will be implemented from 7pm to 5am.
