Seatown Road to Estuary Road, Swords Active Travel Scheme

To make Seatown Road safer for everyone, particularly those walking and cycling, Fingal County Council is introducing new cycle lanes, traffic calming and road layout improvements from the entrance to Seatown Road at Seatown Roundabout to the roundabout at the junction with Estuary Road. John Cradock Ltd. have been appointed as the contractor for these works and works began February 2026.

These works form part of Fingal County Council’s Active Travel Programme and are designed to link and facilitate active travel between Malahide and Swords. The project aims to make Seatown Road safer for all road users, particularly those walking and cycling. Improvements will include the installation of cycle lanes, traffic calming measures, and road layout enhancements from the entrance to Seatown Road (at Seatown Roundabout), to the roundabout at the junction with Estuary Road.

Works include:

  • Adding cycle lanes on both sides of the road
  • Giving higher priority to those cycling and walking in the area
  • Widening the footpath under the bridge to make room for those walking
  • Upgrading roundabouts at Swords Business Campus and Estuary Road to cycle-friendly roundabouts with safe pedestrian crossings on all exits 

Update 22 - 26 June 2026

  • An alternative pedestrian route is in place on the new north side footpath on Seatown Road.
  • From Tuesday 23 June, an alternative pedestrian route will be established on south side footpath.
  • Footpath, drainage and ducting works ongoing on both sides.
  • North Side footpath to be closed from IDA Roundabout to Estuary Road Roundabout.
  • Two-way traffic maintained throughout the week.
  • Kerb /Concrete works ongoing at IDA Roundabout.
  • North side permanent bus stop is now in use.
  • South Side Permanent Bus Stop to be open from Tuesday 23rd.
  • Site Clearance/ducting works to the North side of Seatown Road from IDA Roundabout to M1 Bridge to begin.
