Fingal Libraries has launched its annual Summer Stars Reading challenge for 2022 on Tuesday 14th June at St. Patricks Senior National School in Skerries with a special visit from the Fingal Mobile Library.

Summer Stars is an annual initiative under the Right to Read programme which promotes children’s literacy and reading development. Summer Stars takes place from 13th June to 31st August and focuses on encouraging children to develop and continue the reading habit during the summer months.

All children are invited to register for the summer reading challenge at their local library branch and join the adventure, fun and pleasure of reading and writing over the summer holidays.  Each child will be given a Summer Stars Reading Card to record and track their own progress and the Reading card will be stamped after it has been filled and returned to the library.

All participants will be encouraged to continue reading throughout the summer with rewards and incentives along the way with a grand finale at the end where all the children who participated are invited to an award event where they are presented with their very own Summer Stars certificate.

Fingal Libraries will be holding a variety of children’s events as part of the Summer Stars programme which includes author visits from Alan Nolan and Shane Hegarty, arts and crafts, Lego and coding workshops, sensory cooking classes, interactive science workshops, and creative writing, plus lots of events hosted by Library staff.

Mayor of Fingal Cllr Seána Ó Rodaigh commented “The Summer Stars programme each year is a wonderful way to engage with children and foster a love of reading so be sure to register with your local Fingal Library”.
