Green-Schools Programme – All Schools 2026
An Taisce, in partnership with Local Authorities, coordinates the national Green-Schools Programme, Ireland's leading environmental management and education programme for schools. Green-Schools is a student-led initiative that promotes long-term environmental action across the whole school community, involving students, teachers, staff, parents and the wider community.

Schools work through a series of environmental themes, over a two-year period, to achieve their Green Flag Award. These themes include Litter & Waste, Water, Travel, Energy, Biodiversity, Global Citizenship Litter & Waste, Global Citizenship Energy, Global Citizenship Marine Environment, Global Citizenship Travel, Global Citizenship Food & Biodiversity, Green-Schools Projects.
In Fingal, over 90% of schools are engaged in the Green-Schools Programme. For more information about Green-Schools click here.
Each Green Flag must be maintained as schools progress towards additional flags. Fingal County Council supports participating schools by providing guidance, resources and assistance throughout the programme, including renewal visits for schools applying to renew their Green Flag status.
