Portrane Road Enhancement Project
Fingal County Council is pleased to announce that construction works are set to commence on a public enhancement project aimed at improving pedestrian safety and accessibility on Portrane Road.
About the Project:
The project will deliver significant upgrades designed to create a safer and more welcoming environment for all members of the community — particularly school children and families walking to and from the two local national schools (St. Patrick’s Boys National School and Scoil Phádraic Cailíní).
Key elements and benefits of the project:
- Wider footpaths on the northern side of the road and new pedestrian crossings to make walking routes safer and more accessible for children and adults alike.
- Traffic calming measures, including junction tightening and the installation of a raised table, to help reduce vehicle speeds and increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
- A new bus layby, allowing buses to fully pull in without obstructing the main carriageway, improving road safety and traffic flow.
When Will Works Begin: Donnelly Civil Engineering Ltd have been appointed as the contractor for the scheme, with works due to commence on site in July and estimated to take approximately 9 months to complete. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption during the works, and access for residents and businesses will be maintained wherever possible.
Works in front of the school will be undertaken during the school holiday periods. One lane of traffic will be maintained throughout the works.
