New Safety Partnership will support safer, stronger communities in Fingal West
The inaugural meeting of the Fingal West Local Community Safety Partnership (FWLCSP) has been held, marking a significant step forward in strengthening community‑driven approaches to safety and wellbeing across the Fingal West area.
Bringing together local residents, An Garda Síochána, Fingal County Council, community organisations and statutory partners, the FWLCSP aims to identify the specific safety concerns of Fingal West communities and develop coordinated, practical responses.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tom O’Leary, welcomed the launch, saying: “This partnership gives Fingal West a stronger voice in shaping how safety challenges are addressed locally. When communities are empowered and agencies including Gardaí, work side by side, we achieve better outcomes and build greater resilience at neighbourhood level.”
The new Partnership operates under the national Local Community Safety Partnership framework, replacing the Joint Policing Committee model. With a strong emphasis on prevention, collaboration and community engagement, the FWLCSP seeks to ensure that the lived experiences of local residents directly influence decision‑making.
Philip Jennings, newly elected Chair of the FWLCSP, said: “This is an area which has a proud tradition of community involvement, and this partnership gives us a new opportunity to harness that strength. By working together in an open and constructive way, we can develop solutions that make a real difference to people’s everyday lives.”
The group will meet regularly to set local priorities, support initiatives and help manage the delivery of collaborative actions in the area.
Superintendent Emer Curran, An Garda Síochána, said: “The purpose of the Community Safety partnership is to encourage greater community participation and empowerment, which involves all sections of the community working together to making the community safer for all.”
The new partnership aims to build trust, strengthen relationships and deliver practical improvements that reflect the diverse and evolving needs of local communities in the Fingal West area.
AnnMarie Farrelly, Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, added: “Partnerships like this bring real value to local areas. By combining community knowledge with the expertise of services and agencies, the Fingal West Local Community Safety Partnership can drive meaningful progress and help foster safe, inclusive and thriving communities.”
Aligned with local knowledge and shared action, the new partnership will support safer, more connected neighbourhoods and enhance the quality of life for those living and working across Fingal West.
