Our Balbriggan

Two years on from the launch of the Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Plan 2019-2025, the transformation of Ireland’s youngest town is taking shape, with substantial progress made across a range of objectives in all five of the Plan’s pillars.

Fingal County Council is seeking more detailed input from the people of Balbriggan on the town’s public realm  – its streets, squares and parks  – and how these spaces can work together to deliver high quality public space for locals.

Fingal County Council has welcomed today’s announcement by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien TD, that €25.4m has been awarded under the Urban Regeneration Development Fund (URDF) for projects associated with the rejuvenation of Balbriggan.

The Balbriggan Leadership Group ratified the establishment of a Safe Balbriggan Pillar at its quarterly meeting yesterday (Wednesday, February 17).

Fingal County Council’s Our Balbriggan project has been short-listed for a top European award by The Innovation in Politics Institute, a Vienna-based organisation which works on a nonpartisan, pan-European level to enable politicians from different countries to share best practice, to network and to build bridges.

The re-development of key areas of Balbriggan has been given a major boost with the acquisition of several buildings in the town by Fingal County Council.

A year on from the launch of the Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Plan, the transformation of Ireland’s youngest town is taking shape, with substantial progress announced across a range of objectives. 

Balbriggan has been chosen as Ireland’s first town to be named as a Smart District in a move that will put it at the cutting edge of smart projects to improve services, create jobs and build a better community.

There has been huge progress on the plan, which has been shaped by the views of the people of the town, according to the Balbriggan Leadership Group.

The Leadership Group, chaired by Professor Brian MacCraith, President, Dublin City University, was established to prepare ambitious plans for the area with actions that can be delivered upon.

2019 was an exciting year. It marked the start of the Rejuvenation Plan, which by 2025 is set to transform the town. A number of key projects have got underway with good progress being made on our 20 things in 12 months.
