Fingal Christmas Cards of Kindness – Keeping Nursing Home Residents Connected

Fingal County Council is delighted to announce that over 1700 handmade Christmas Cards were received through the Fingal Christmas Cards of Kindness campaign.

An initiative of Fingal County Council Community Development Office, the campaign invited young people across Fingal to make handmade Christmas Cards and send kind wishes to nursing home residents around the County.

In association with Age Friendly Fingal, the handmade Christmas cards are currently being delivered to the 12 participating Nursing Homes and two Meals on Wheels services.

Speaking about the campaign, Mayor of Fingal, Cllr David Healy said: “This campaign is a wonderful way for young people of Fingal to connect with senior citizens and adopts a real sense of community spirit in the run up to what will be a very different Christmas for us all.”

Age Friendly Fingal Programme Manager, Louise Edmonds said: “The project provided an opportunity to help seniors who may be isolated due to COVID-19 to feel connected, while allowing young people to help others in the lead up to Christmas.”

Sinead Wiley, Fingal County Council, Senior Community Officer added: “Fingal County Council is overwhelmed by the response received from both individual families and the children of local schools, pre schools, creches and girl guides.”

She also thanked all who took part and acknowledged the role that Fingal Community Centres played in prompting and collecting cards across the county.
