Temporary 'Do Not Swim' Notice issued for The Velvet Strand, Portmarnock

Please be advised that a temporary “Do Not Swim” Prohibition Notice has been erected at The Velvet Strand Portmarnock for 72 hours due to a stormwater overflow at a pumping station following heavy rainfall this morning.

Please be advised that a temporary “Do Not Swim” Prohibition Notice has been erected at The Velvet Strand Portmarnock for 72 hours due to a stormwater overflow at a pumping station following heavy rainfall this morning.

Further testing will take place tomorrow, the 28th July 2020 and the results of laboratory analysis will be available on Thursday 30th July 2020.

Bathing water samples have been taken fortnightly at The Velvet Strand since the summer bathing season commenced and the water has been at an “Excellent” standard in each test.

The Velvet Strand, Portmarnock remains open but beach users are asked to respect the ‘Do Not Swim’ notice as it has been put in place to ensure that the health of bathers is not compromised.

Members of the public can check for water quality at any of the monitored bathing waters in Ireland in advance by accessing the EPA website at www.beaches.ie or by checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.
