Six Council projects to receive €20m from Town and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund

Fingal County Council is to receive over €20 million from the Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund for six projects across the county. 

The projects were included in a list of almost 120 projects across every local authority in the county which was announced this week by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD. A total of €409 million is being made available to local authorities who meet targets. 

Projects supported under the Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund fall into two categories. One category focuses on projects that can be delivered in the short-term with shared funding available for projects that can be on-site by September 2027 while the other category will support longer-term projects that will be delivered in the later years of the National Development Plan (NDP). 

Three Fingal projects which are scheduled to be on-site within the next 12 months will receive a total of €20.1 million from the Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund. The Swords Cultural Quarter has been allocated €7.5 million while €7 million will be made available to the pedestrianisation of New Street in Malahide and €5.6m is earmarked for the Skerries Harbour Road project

Under the other category Fingal has been awarded €307,500 for three projects which are currently being planned with €150,000 allocated for work on the Swords Main Street Transformation which is one of the projects within the Sustainable Swords Strategy. Two grants of €78,750 will be given for the development of a masterplan for Clonsilla Town Centre and a development plan for Skerries Town Centre.

The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tony Murphy, said: “Revitalising our town centres and tackling dereliction is an important focus for Fingal, and I am delighted that the €20.1 million secured for the county represents one of the largest overall allocations in the country.”.”

The Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, said: “The money allocated to the projects in Malahide, Skerries and Swords will allow the Council to move quickly to the delivery phase and I look forward to seeing work begin in the coming months. The projects in Clonsilla, Skerries and Swords, which are at the beginning of their respective journeys, will benefit greatly from receiving funds towards the development of key plans and studies.”

In announcing the grants, Minister Browne stated: “I want the centres of our towns and cities to be places people want to hang out in, meet up, do the shopping and live in. We have to improve these areas in our towns because not only should they look well, but they should be usable and accessible. They should be places where everyone from teenagers to older people feel safe in and want to use, be proud of and enjoy.”
