Renovated Baldoyle Library Reopens to Public

Baldoyle Library has reopened to the public after substantial renovation works over the past months.
The Mayor of Fingal Cllr. Brian McDonagh officially reopened the library on Friday May 23rd. The Mayor was joined by Fingal County Council’s Director of Economic, Enterprise, Tourism, and Cultural Development John Quinlivan and County Librarian Betty Boardman. Children from St. Laurence’s National School attended the opening where they were entertained by writer Shane Hegarty.
Mayor of Fingal Cllr. Brian McDonagh said: “I am delighted to reopen Baldoyle Library. The renovation works have delivered a better and more modernised facility that will serve the community in Baldoyle for years to come”.
Director of Economic, Enterprise, Tourism, and Cultural Development John Quinlivan said: “We’re really pleased to be reopening Baldoyle Library not just with the improvements to the library but as one of the first public buildings in the Council's stock to be decarbonised by retrofitting with a heat pump. This is an important step on our journey to phasing out fossil fuels in line with the Public Sector Climate Action Strategy and Fingal’s Climate Action Plan”.
County Librarian Betty Boardman said: “Renovations to Baldoyle Library have created an accessible, comfortable environment for learning and literacy in the digital age. The new sensory garden reflects Fingal Libraries commitment to inclusivity and meeting the needs of all sections of the community.”

Renovations include upgraded computer rooms and new desk areas with power supplies for research and study; new pocket seating and informal seating areas for reading and relaxation; a children’s library reading area, activity room and desks to promote social learning; and a new sensory garden for inclusive play and learning.
The works also include a suite of energy efficiency improvements. As well as the installation of a heat pump, sliding timber sash windows have been upgraded to improve comfort levels along with energy efficiency. Solar PV panels installed on suitable roof space contribute to renewable energy on site.
The My Open Library service in Baldoyle Library has now resumed, providing patrons with access to library services from 8am to 10pm, seven days a week. Baldoyle Library can be contacted by e mail: [email protected] or telephone 01 890 6793.
