Prior Warning Notice removed from Velvet Strand, Portmarnock.

The Prior Warning Notice issued for Velvet Strand Portmarnock on June 14 has now been removed following test results of excellent water quality. Balbriggan result also excellent.

Please be advised that the Prior Warning Notice issued for Velvet Strand Portmarnock on June 14 has now been removed following test results of excellent water quality.

The bathing water quality result collected on 16th June, 2025 at Balbriggan has met the standard of “excellent”.

In addition, the resample result at Velvet Strand beach, Portmarnock has met the standard of “excellent” and following consultation with the HSE a temporary Prior Warning Notice erected on 14th June can now be lifted.  

Next sample collection is planned for 23rd June (Balbriggan to Donabate beaches) and 24th June (Malahide to Claremont beach, Howth).  

Note: All ten identified beaches, and the non-identified bathing water at Malahide (permanent red flag), met the standard of “excellent” water quality for the samples on 9th June. 

Members of the public can check for water quality at any of the monitored bathing waters in Ireland in advance by accessing the EPA website at www.beaches.ie or by checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.
