Plans advancing for new transport improvements for N3 between the M50 and Clonee

N3 M50

Fingal County Council, in partnership with Meath County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), is moving ahead with the next stage of plans to improve travel along the N3 between the M50 and Clonee.

The project is about making everyday journeys along this busy route safer, quicker and more sustainable, while supporting continued growth in the area. It is looking at how best to introduce faster, more reliable bus services, along with safer and more attractive walking and cycling facilities, while continuing to support traffic flow on this busy route.

Known as the N3 M50 to Clonee Bus Priority and Active Travel Scheme, the project has now entered Phase 2: Options Selection, where the emerging preferred option has been selected. This section of the route runs from Junction 2 (Snugborough) to Junction 4B (Clonee), covering approximately 5.4 kilometres of the N3 corridor. Consulting engineers ROD‑AECOM have been appointed to develop and assess the different options as part of this stage.

The scheme, part of the National Development Plan 2021–2030, was reviewed in 2023 and has subsequently been refined to prioritise sustainable transport and improved accessibility along the corridor.

The proposed improvements aim to:

  • Make bus journeys faster and more reliable
  • Improve facilities for walking and cycling
  • Enhance road safety for all users
  • Support a more sustainable and resilient transport network

The scheme will also link with the wider BusConnects network and other transport projects in the area.

A public consultation on the emerging preferred option will take place from 20 April to 18 May 2026. Members of the public are invited to review the proposals and share their views. Details of the proposed options, maps, drawings and information on how to make a submission are available online at: https://consult.fingal.ie/browse.

As part of the consultation process, two in‑person events will also be held where project team members will be available to answer questions and outline the design options. These events will take place:

  • Tuesday, 28 April 2026
    4.00pm – 7.30pm
Blanchardstown Library, Civic Centre, Blanchardstown Centre, D15 RY73
  • Wednesday, 29 April 2026
    4.00pm – 7.30pm
Meath County Council Offices, Drumree Road, Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, A85 XK20

Everyone who lives, works, travels or does business in the area is encouraged to have their say. By taking part, you can help shape how people travel along the N3 now and into the future.
