Parklet Partners: Fingal County Council urges businesses to apply
Fingal County Council is seeking “Parklet Partners” to apply to transform their existing streetscape into a welcoming and attractive community space by providing new parklets outside suitable businesses in Fingal.
Applications are open until 5 p.m. October 30 and interested parties should submit completed application forms to e%63%6f%[email protected] " rel="nofollow"> [email protected]
Parklets convert a few on-street parking spaces (excluding accessible, age friendly and loading bay) into public open space to accommodate dining and additional seating. They are a cost-effective way to create more vibrant streets, support local business, and provide an inviting space for residents and passers-by to dine and relax.
Fingal County Council completed a pilot with parklets in the heart of Swords recently with the aim of supporting local businesses by transforming the existing streetscape into a welcoming and attractive community space. It has been welcomed with people taking the opportunity to enjoy a meal while following current government guidelines
Emer O’Gorman, Director of Economic, Enterprise and Tourism Development at Fingal County Council, said: “We are seeking groups of businesses closely located, such as restaurants or cafes on the same street, who have parking outside of their premises to apply for this initiative. We are looking to use the public space available to us in Fingal to provide support to businesses to remain as open and to provide residents visitors a relaxing place to dine.”
The parklet, which accommodates dining space and additional seating, is aimed at encouraging people back into the centre of the town while complying with public health guidance. These parklets will initially be in place for one year and will be then evaluated to consider whether they should be kept in place for another year.

Tony Murphy, Chair of the Economic, Enterprise and Tourism Development Strategic Policy Committee for Fingal County Council, commented: “I would encourage businesses who are able to apply for this initiative to do so. Supporting local businesses is a priority for us as we continue to tackle the ongoing struggle with Covid-19 and creative initiatives like these helps those who are currently restricted in their operations to keep going.”
