A safer, greener and more connected route is at the heart of Fingal County Council’s latest plans to improve pedestrian and cycling infrastructure between Clonee and Blanchardstown.
A safer, greener and more connected route is at the heart of Fingal County Council’s latest plans to improve pedestrian and cycling infrastructure between Clonee and Blanchardstown. The proposed upgrades will make it easier and more enjoyable for people to walk, cycle and wheel along the corridor, helping communities stay active while improving everyday journeys.
The scheme will enhance accessibility for people of all abilities and strengthen links to the wider public transport network, making longer journeys more convenient.
The scheme runs through Littlepace, Huntstown and Blakestown, starting at the R147, following Littlepace Road, Huntstown Wood and Huntstown Way/Blakestown Way, and ending at the Blakestown Way/R121 roundabout.
The project is currently at the preliminary design stage, with proposed improvements including:
• New protected cycle lanes and upgrades to existing footpaths
• Additional cycle tracks at junctions and along the R147, L3025 and Huntstown Wood
• New zebra crossings and cycle facilities at roundabouts
• Bus stop upgrades to allow cyclists to pass safely
• Lane width adjustments to provide more space for pedestrians and cyclists
• Junction modifications to improve crossing safety
• Traffic calming measures, including ramps, to reduce vehicle speeds
By encouraging a shift towards walking, wheeling and cycling, the project aims to reduce car dependency for short journeys, contributing to improved air quality and reduced traffic congestion. Safer crossing points will particularly benefit vulnerable road users, including older people, children and those with disabilities.
Public consultation will run from 22 May 2026 to 19 June 2026. Members of the public are invited to view the proposals and share their feedback via the Fingal consultation portal: https://consult.fingal.ie/en/browse
Everyone who lives, works, travels or does business along the route from Clonee to Blanchardstown is encouraged to have their say. By taking part, you can help shape how people walk, cycle and wheel between Clonee and Blanchardstown now and into the future.
