Ireland’s first smart bike parking technology launches in Dublin 15
Fingal County Council is proud to announce the launch of an innovative initiative in partnership with Norwegian company Sparkpark, bringing Ireland’s first precision bike parking technology to the Dublin 15 area.
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dublin hosted the launch of Fingal County Council's partnership with Sparkpark, showcasing smart mobility solutions that promote sustainable, data-driven urban transport. The system addresses one of the biggest challenges in shared mobility: poorly parked bikes. It uses advanced geofencing and sensor technology to ensure safe and responsible parking within designated Sheffield stand locations.
Dublin 15, one of Fingal’s busiest areas for bike sharing, has been selected for the rollout of 10 pilot locations, marking a significant step forward in sustainable transport infrastructure. This is the first deployment of Sparkpark’s technology in Ireland, positioning Fingal as a national leader in smart mobility solutions.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tom O’Leary, said “Fingal is proud to be leading the way in bringing this innovative technology to Ireland. Smart solutions like Sparkpark help us to improve safety, accessibility, and the overall experience of our public spaces. This is a major step forward in our commitment to sustainable transport and active travel.”
David Storey, Director of Environment, Climate Action, Active Travel and Sports at Fingal County Council, added “This initiative is a perfect example of how technology can support our climate and mobility goals. By improving how shared bikes are parked, we’re making our streets safer and more welcoming, while also encouraging more people to choose active travel.”
This rollout reinforces Fingal County Council’s position at the forefront of sustainable transport planning in Ireland. It also supports the Council’s Climate Action Plan and aligns with national goals to promote active travel and reduce carbon emissions.
Co-founder of Sparkpark, Thomas Braaten agrees “We are proud to partner with Fingal County Council to bring our high-precision parking technology to Ireland. This collaboration is about more than solving parking — it’s about creating harmony between people, cities, and mobility. Dublin 15 will now be at the forefront of digital infrastructure for shared micromobility, setting a strong example for how smart technology can make cities safer, cleaner, and more sustainable.”
By improving how shared bikes are parked, this innovation supports cleaner streets, safer walkways, and a more seamless travel experience, helping Fingal move toward a greener, more connected future for everyone.
