Hartstown Community Centre reopens after €2m upgrade to facilities

Hartstown Opening

Residents of Hartstown have welcomed the reopening of the newly renovated and extensively upgraded Hartstown Community Centre and All-weather Pitch, a facility which has been a cornerstone of the community in Dublin 15 for many years.

Some €2 million was invested into the refurbishment, which funded a full rewiring of the building, the installation of accessible toilets, essential repairs to the stage, replacement of fire doors, and upgrades to the all-weather pitch. The centre is now poised to return as an invaluable community hub.

Joining Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tom O’Leary to open the event were Jack Chambers TD, Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, Fingal County Council’s Chief Executive, AnnMarie Farrelly, local councillors and TDs, a host of local groups and clubs, and members of the Hartstown Sports and Leisure Community Centre CLG

Recognising the tremendous effort put in by the community to keep the centre going for many years, Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tom O’Leary, said: “This fantastic refurbishment represents a significant investment in Dublin 15, and we are incredibly proud to be delivering such high-quality community infrastructure for the Hartstown community. It will be a centre that will be a focal point for residents and help support the many community and volunteer groups in the local area.”

Minister Chambers said: “It’s truly heartening to see a community facility like this brought back to life. Hartstown now has a space that reflects its spirit, its energy, and its future. It’s great to witness this transformation and to celebrate what it means for everyone who calls this place home.”

Repairing and improving the much-used premises was a top priority for both the Council and the local community. Originally built in the 1980s, this comprehensive refurbishment has transformed Hartstown Community Centre into a modern, accessible, and energy-efficient facility. These improvements are vital, as they will ensure the centre can continue to serve the growing and diverse needs of the Hartstown community, allowing for the speedy return of a wide variety of activities, including preschool and after-school programs, community group meetings, cafe, youth clubs, karate classes, and a range of sporting and fitness activities.

Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, also spoke on the centre's importance to the area: “Building communities is an integral part of the work we do as a Council and the newly refurbished Hartstown Community Centre will be an important asset to compliment the social infrastructure already in place across the county. I am very pleased that the centre will continue to be a vibrant hub for the people of Hartstown and surrounding areas offering visitors a space in which to foster creativity, social connections and learning in the community.”

The opening of the new all weather pitch will be a welcome addition to the area, providing a perfect space for a range of sporting activities and helping to foster engagement through sport across the Dublin 15 area.
