Fingal County Council has been awarded €45,936 in funding by the Department of Rural and Community Development under the 2021 Town and Village Renewal Scheme. The funding is aimed at helping communities through the planning and identification of the enhancement of public spaces together with an emphasis on supporting remote working in rural communities.

Funding of €22,436 will be provided for a village health check in Naul, a collaborative project, which will empower the local community to assess the development needs and potential of the area.

An award of €22,500 to Oldtown will allow for a village health check, including a review of the amenities, public realm, infrastructure and services in the village, and identify positive actions for the future development of the village.

Welcoming the announcement of the new funding by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphries, TD, the Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Seána Ó Rodaigh, said “I welcome the Minister’s announcement. Rural development is a priority for Fingal County Council, so I particularly welcome funding for the identification of village needs for the future. Such initiatives will help improve the public realm in the relevant villages."

Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly commented, “Fingal is at the forefront of the collaboration with local communities to develop their areas in a beneficial way for the future. The Council will continue to lead in this area, and the Town & Village Scheme is one more source of such support for positive placemaking in the county."

Fingal County Council’s Director of Economic, Enterprise, Tourism & Cultural Development, Emer O’Gorman, said: “This funding continues Fingal County Council’s success in securing additional resources for local areas during recent years. The Town & Village Scheme is a further example of the ongoing investment in Fingal through a range of measures to help communities develop their vision of their local public realm."

Aoife Sheridan, Senior Executive Officer in the Economic, Enterprise, Tourism & Cultural Development Department welcomed the announcement “The Council would like to thank the community groups who assisted the Council to develop the project applications. Fingal County Council looks forward to working with the communities to deliver positive outcomes in the future development of these villages."
