Fingal County Council Distributes Sensory Kits for World Autism Awareness Day
The Community Development and Inclusion Office has prepared new sensory kits for 10 community centres across the county to mark the 19th year of World Autism Awareness Day on Thursday, April 2 2026.
The Community Development and Inclusion Office has prepared new sensory kits to mark the 19th year of World Autism Awareness Day on Thursday, April 2 2026. Staff assembled a range of sensory toys and objects for 10 community centres across the county. These centres have been actively organising inclusion-focused events. The new kits build on the 10 sensory packs already available in selected centres.
The sensory kits contain items designed to support regulation, comfort, and wellbeing for children and adults with sensory processing needs. This initiative aligns with training provided by AsIAm to the Fingal Community Faciities network in June 2025.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tom O’Leary said:
“I’m very proud, as Mayor to celebrate yet another year of World Autism Awareness Day here in Fingal County Council. We have such diverse communities here right across Fingal and we are committed to supporting wellbeing among them all.
I commend the efforts of all our staff and hope our many community centres make use of these wonderful sensory kits”
Director of Economic, Community & Cultural Development John Quinlivan commented:
“Our support for World Autism Awareness Day reflects the core mission of the Community Department—to build connected, inclusive, and empowered communities across Fingal.
Initiatives like this make a real difference. They send a clear message to our neurodiverse communities that we see you, we value you, and we stand with you.”
The 2026 observance of World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), themed “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,” highlights and affirms the dignity and worth of all autistic people as part of our shared human future.
By supporting World Autism Awareness Day, Fingal County Council continues to promote its organisational values of inclusion, respect and community wellbeing.
