Fingal Libraries Write Time Festival was launched by the Mayor of Fingal Cllr. David Healy in the grounds of Swords Castle on Thursday 3 September.

Fingal Libraries Write Time Festival 2020

The fifth annual Write Time Festival organised by Fingal Libraries celebrates the written and spoken word in Fingal. This year the Festival will be a solely virtual affair with talks and workshops for children and adults being made available on the Fingal Libraries YouTube channel and uploaded to our social media platforms throughout the month of September.

The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. David Healy said: “I was delighted to launch the Write Time Festival, our fifth annual event, last Thursday. It will be different to how the previous four have been held because of Covid-19 but it will not lack for learning opportunities for everyone taking part online this year.”

County Librarian Betty Boardman said: “Our fifth Fingal Libraries Write Time festival will be a different experience this year. Because of COVID-19, we cannot have an audience present, but people can still enjoy the workshops, talks and other events in their own homes through YouTube and our social media channels. If you are feeling creative and would like to make a start on a short story, personal reflections or even a novel, this is a great place to begin.”

Margaret Geraghty, Director of Housing and Community for Fingal County Council said: “Fingal Libraries' Write Time Festival is an opportunity for anybody interested in the art of writing to engage with the varied programme and the expert guests who will be interviewed. This year’s Festival will be entirely digital due to the restrictions that Covid-19 still places on us.  The libraries team has put together a fantastic event and I would urge as many people as possible to participate and to enjoy programme.”

This year’s programme features an “interview” style event conducted by Paula Campbell of Poolbeg Publishers in conversation with two widely acclaimed Dublin authors Jane Ryan and Fiona Gartland. Critically acclaimed poet, editor & novelist Nessa O’Mahony will provide an online exploration of some of Fingal’s famous writer’s and read some of their fantastic works.

Award winning children’s writer Sarah Webb will provide an online workshop entitled Creative Bursts for children aged 8-12 years with an autumnal feel and Domhnall from Fingal Libraries will provide a four-part module correspondence course designed to help young writer’s get to grips with the basic building blocks of storytelling.
