Council invites applications from business wishing to use public realm

As part of the #RestartFingal initiative to help businesses across the county get back up and running, Fingal County Council is inviting applications from those businesses interested in expanding into the public realm by placing street furniture outside their premises.

Successful applicants will be able to place tables and chairs on the street or public realm to cater for more customers while continuing to adhere to the Public Health Guidelines in relation to COVID-19 and, in particular, social distancing.

Fingal County Council is also exploring the possibility of repurposing street parking to facilitate additional street furniture and New Street, Malahide, has already been pedestrianised as part of a 10-week pilot project.

Applications for a Street Furniture License can be made online via https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/6b9af057f8f94958892ba9455dc0d1c9 and there will be a non-refundable administration fee of €50. Where permission is granted for tables and chairs, there will be no license fee imposed for a period of six months, with businesses who have already paid for 2020 receiving a six month credit in 2021.

Prior to the submission of applications, an onsite consultation will be conducted and intending applicants should contact Operations Department by email at [email protected] to arrange their assessment. All applications will be individually assessed under public health, fire safety and public circulation criteria and individual conditions may be imposed.

Potential applicants should note that if intoxicating liquor is being served in the area covered by the Street Furniture License, the licensee must also comply with the requirements of the Intoxicating Liquor Acts and the Fingal County Council Intoxicating Liquor Bye-Laws, 2002, which prohibit the consumption of intoxicating liquor in public places. Failure to comply with the provisions of the Act & Bye Laws may result in the withdrawal of the Street Furniture License.
