International Women’s Day is a global celebration of women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements, and a call to action for greater gender equality. This year’s theme, #GiveToGain, will be reflected in a wide range of community-led events across the county.

Fingal County Council is providing up to €300 per group, enabling communities to lead local celebrations, amplify women’s voices, and support empowerment and participation. The 65 funded organisations represent the diversity of Fingal, with events designed to bring neighbours together, strengthen civic engagement, and highlight the central role of women in building inclusive, multicultural communities.

Cllr Tom O’Leary, Mayor of Fingal said: “We’ve been proud to fully celebrate International Women’s Day here in Fingal each year, and this year is no different. Our Community teams here in Fingal County Council have administered an amazing €18,000 in bursaries to celebrate the remarkable achievements and contributions of women in Fingal.

These events run by 65 groups across the county are for absolutely everyone and I’d encourage all to explore and take part to celebrate the contributions of women for the betterment of all our local communities.

Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly also added: “Every day, women across Fingal make important and lasting contributions to our community. When we focus on inclusion, empowerment, and supporting one another, the impact reaches far beyond any single event.

I want to thank our staff and the many local community groups who have played a key role in organising this year’s programme. Your dedication is greatly appreciated. I hope as many people as possible will take part and help make our celebrations meaningful”

International Women’s Day offers an important opportunity for community and voluntary organisations to celebrate women and engage their local communities in meaningful ways.
