Applications open for Outdoor Recreation Investment Scheme in Fingal

Donabate ORIS

Groups in Fingal are now invited to submit Expressions of Interest for the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) 2026/2027. Now in its 10th year, the scheme has to date invested over €150 million in over 2,000 recreation projects at mountains, lakes, rivers, beaches, blue-ways, bogs, forest walks and upland areas. The 2026–2027 scheme has an overall allocation of €20 million and supports both the development of new projects and the upkeep of existing outdoor recreation facilities. It also provides targeted support for the repair, enhancement and promotion of outdoor infrastructure in rural areas across Ireland.

Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tony Murphy said: “Local groups know their areas best, and we want to hear their ideas on how outdoor spaces can be enhanced and enjoyed by all. I encourage communities across Fingal to take this opportunity to put forward projects that will make a real difference locally - supporting active lifestyles and improving access to our beautiful natural amenities for everyone.”

The scheme supports a wide range of outdoor activities, including walking, trekking, cycling, kayaking and hiking. It promotes the sustainable use of rural amenities, encouraging healthy, active lifestyles while also enhancing the economic and tourism potential of local areas for residents and visitors alike.

Speaking at the launch, Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD said: “I am delighted to be announcing this significant funding package that will continue to deliver for the outdoor recreation sector. The projects we have delivered in the last ten years have not only supported our physical and mental wellbeing, but they have also been a driver of economic benefit in some of the most beautiful parts of our country.”

EOIs submitted by groups will be evaluated by Fingal’s County Outdoor Recreation Committee to develop a full application.

Community groups interested in applying are encouraged to review the scheme details and submit their Expressions of Interest by the advertised deadline.
