With the much-awaited return of St. Patrick’s Day parades to take place across Fingal on Thursday, people across the county will be out in force to celebrate all things Irish.

The theme this year is “Essential Workers”, chosen to thank the thousands of frontline staff for their tremendous hard work and dedication throughout the pandemic. Local businesses, youth clubs, sports clubs, schools and other organisations will be taking part, with the Council encouraging participants to be carbon neutral as they make their way along the routes.

Along with the parades, there are live music events being held at Draíocht and the Séamus Ennis Arts Centre, while key buildings across the County will also be turning green to mark the occasion.

As always, everybody is welcome to come along and enjoy the various festivities taking place, with the parades being held in a number of towns. For this year, locations and starting times are as follows:

Swords 11.00 am                              Lusk – 1.30 pm

Blanchardstown 12.00 pm            Balbriggan 2.00 pm

Rush – 1.00 pm                                    Skerries 3.00 pm

In order to facilitate the parades, residents are advised that road closures and diversions will be in place at various times on Thursday 17th of March. Full details on the routes and road closures are available on the council website: https://www.fingal.ie/news/st-patricks-day-2022-road-closure-information.

On the night of Friday 18th of March, there will also be a special fireworks and remembrance event held at Malahide from 8.00pm. People looking to watch the display can find free parking at Malahide Castle. Road closures and detours will be in place until 9.00 pm, particularly along the Coast Road from Malahide Beach to Portmarnock.
