Africa Day 2026 to be celebrated across Fingal
Fingal is set to celebrate Africa Day 2026 with events taking place in Balbriggan, Lusk, Swords and Mulhuddart. Africa Day is an annual worldwide celebration of the people, cultures, and potential of this wonderful continent. It falls on the 25th May each year but will be celebrated at different locations throughout the month of May. Africa Day is a chance for people to come together and celebrate the diversity of Africa.
The Fingal Community Development & Inclusion Department in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs/Irish Aid, is supporting various groups to celebrate Africa Day 2026. The events will showcase the many cultural aspects of Africa and embrace our shared heritage.
Fingal Africa Day Events:
· Cairde, Fingal African Community, Saturday, 23rd May 2026, 1pm–6 pm Cairde, Balbriggan, Co.Dublin
· Lusk community Cultural Centre, Saturday, 23rd May 2026; 2.15pm- 6.00pm Lusk, Co.Dublin
· The Bold Woman Association, Saturday, 30th May 2026, 12pm – 5 pm Swords Castle, Swords
· Children 4 World Children, Saturday, 30th May 2026, 3 pm-6.30pm Mulhuddart Community Centre, Dublin 15
The first event will take place in Cairde, Fingal African Community, Balbriggan on Saturday, 23rd May; 1 pm to 6 pm. The African Community will host a powerful celebration of African history honouring heroes across the 54 countries of Africa who stood for justice, freedom, dignity and human rights.
Lusk Cultural Centre Africa Day event will take place on Saturday, 23rd May in Lusk; 2.15pm-6pm. A showcase including music, exhibition, hair braiding, A Taste of African Food. Working with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, we will showcase positive African Culture in our town for the participation of all of our community.
The Bold Woman Association will celebrate an OWANBE African Day Edition in the Swords Castle on Saturday, 30th May; 12noon -6pm. It is a celebration of African roots, wisdom, and collective diversity power, with dress code of African Royalty.
The Children 4 World Children will celebrate Sounds from Africa at the Mulhuddart Community Centre, Dublin 15, on Saturday, 30th May: 3pm -6pm. A cultural event celebrating the diversity and global influence of African music and a platform for cultural Practitioners to share their skills and heritage.
Mayor of Fingal Cllr Tom O’Leary, said: “Africa day is an opportunity to celebrate the rich and varied heritage and culture of Africa and our inclusive and vibrant communities in Fingal through the wonderful events planned across the county.”
Deputy Fingal Chief Executive Ethna Felten said: “Fingal has a wealth of active and engaged community groups representing our multicultural population and supported by our Fingal Community Development and Integration teams. Events like Africa Day are very important to celebrate our diversity and enhance social inclusion and community involvement.”
Africa Day will be celebrated with a series of events taking place nationwide. Local Authorities across Ireland are set to host a range of cultural, artistic, and family-friendly events. These will include contemporary African Irish cultural events, as well as family fun days, fashion, art, film, music, dance and food events, which will take place in towns and cities across Ireland.
Minister Neale Richmond said: “Africa Day is an opportunity to promote the growing trade, political and cultural links between Ireland and countries across Africa. The potential for this relationship over the coming years is enormous. Trade between Ireland and countries across Africa stands at approximately €9 billion annually and is growing all the time.”
