Africa Day 2023 to be Celebrated across Fingal

The Fingal Integration Team in collaboration with Department of Foreign Affairs / Irish Aid are supporting three groups to celebrate Fingal Africa Day 2023

Africa Day is an annual worldwide celebration of the people, cultures and potential of this wonderful continent. Held on 25 May each year, Africa Day is a chance for people to come together and celebrate the diversity of Africa. The Fingal Integration Team in collaboration with Department of Foreign Affairs / Irish Aid are supporting three groups to celebrate Fingal Africa Day 2023. The events will showcase the many cultural aspects of Africa and embrace our shared heritage.

The first event takes place in Lusk Community and Cultural Centre on Thursday 25th May 2023 from 10am - 8pm. Lusk Community Council will celebrate “Our Shared History”  with an African Culture Exhibition, Music, Singing, Dancing, Workshops, Food and More. This will also include a Voter Registration event from  12 to 3. Download Programme 
On 27th May  Balbriggan African Group will host an event presenting Africa as a continent and not a country through cultural exchange, folklore, storytelling, arts, music, food and costume at Flemington Community Centre, Balbriggan from 11am - 5pm Download Programme
The African Advocacy Network Ireland (AANI) is delighted to present the Pride of Africa Achievement Awards on Sunday 28th May 2023 from 5pm to 11pm. The event will be held in the Westmanstown Sports and Events Centre to showcase the talents and excellent contributions of young people to Irish society.

Mayor of Fingal Cllr Howard Mahony said ‘I would like to congratulate everyone involved in organising these fantastic events for Africa Day 2023 and I know they will provide an insight into the continent's vibrant culture and I particularly wish to congratulate those who will be honoured in Pride of Africa Achievement Awards.’ 

Fingal Chief Executive AnnMarie Farrelly commented ‘Fingal County Council is delighted to support Africa Day events which provide an wonderful opportunity to celebrate and engage with the native cultures of the many Africans living in Fingal as we continue to promote integration and celebrate diversity across the County.’
