Historic Street Elements Audit
Our historic street furniture are often taken for granted. Limestone kerbing is replaced, post boxes updated, pumps removed when no longer in use. However it is these elements that bring character to our streets and roads and reflect our social history.

Fingal Heritage Office, with assistance from the Heritage Council, has commissioned Archaeology Plan to undertake an audit of historic street elements in Fingal. The project aims to identify the location of historic street elements, specifically
- Historic kerbing and related stone elements
- Historic Water Pumps
- Postboxes
- Milestones
- Other
At the moment we don’t know how many water pumps or lengths of historic kerbing survive in Fingal. One of the outcomes of the project is to establish a baseline record of these elements so we can protect them into the future.
Another important element of the project is the record of the social history of our towns, villages and roads. Do you have photographs of the pumps or postboxes from years ago? Maybe knowledge of kerbing or cobbling that has disappeared from our streets? Or memories of milestones? Let us know by contacting the team at
