Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead
Saturday & Sunday, 1–2 November 2025 3-6pm, Swords Castle
A culturally authentic celebration of Mexico’s Día de los Muertos at Swords Castle, adapted for the setting while preserving the spirit and traditions of the festival.
This two-day event will provide the local community with an immersive experience that honours loved ones who have passed, celebrates life, and encourages togetherness through music, food, art, and remembrance.
Día de los Muertos combines pre-Hispanic and Catholic traditions, centred on the belief that at this time of year, the souls of the departed return to visit the living. Families welcome them with altars (ofrendas) decorated with marigolds, candles, food, and mementos, and gather in cemeteries and homes to celebrate their memory.
The event will be inclusive and family-friendly, providing opportunities for cultural learning, creative participation, and shared reflection while offering an atmospheric and respectful experience in the heritage setting of Swords Castle.
