Free beach wheelchair service at South Strand Skerries and Portmarnock
These wheelchairs allow visitors with disabilities or mobility restrictions to have easier access to, and enjoyment of, our beaches.
At present there are two beaches with beach wheelchair availability:
- South Beach, Skerries
- Balcarrick, Beach Donabate
How do I book a wheelchair?
**The service is free of charge but must be booked in advance to ensure availability – a minimum of 48hrs is preferable.**
South Beach, Skerries (Hippocampe Beach Wheelchair Model): 0873145976 or call to the Lifeguard Hut.
The operation hours are 11am to 7pm:
- Weekends only in June and September (up until the 15th).
- Daily in July and August.
Shoreline Hotel, Donabate (Hippocampe Beach Wheelchair Model): 018109200 or go to hotel reception.
- Chair are available throughout August, from 11am to 7pm.
- If given 48 hours’ notice by phone, chair can be made available at other times of the year.
Are there any terms and conditions?
- You must fill in our Waiver Form, available at the locations above, before using the service
- You must present valid photo I.D. showing your current address when collecting the chair
- Chair users must have a helper in attendance as Fingal staff (Lifeguards or otherwise) or Hotel Staff are not in a position to help the user either into or out of the wheelchair.
