Place Standards Tool

Place Standards tool is a Fingal County Council Community Led Project developed to invites everyone in the community—residents, local services, and partner agencies—to take part and share their insights.

Welcome to Our Place: Building Better Communities Together
At Fingal County Council’s Community Department, we believe that the strength of a community begins with the places we share. That’s why we are proud to introduce the Place Standard Tool—a simple yet powerful way to understand, evaluate and improve the places where we live, work, and connect.
The Place Standard Tool helps us have meaningful conversations about what makes a place thrive. It brings together residents, community groups, and professionals to explore the physical and social elements that shape our everyday lives—from housing, transport, and green spaces, to safety, social opportunities, and wellbeing.
By working together and listening to local voices, we can use this tool to highlight what’s working well and identify where improvements are needed. It supports our efforts to build stronger, healthier, and more vibrant communities across Fingal.
This is more than just a survey—it’s the first step in shaping a shared vision for our future. We invite you to get involved, share your views, and help make your place the best it can be.

CORDUFF PLACE STANDARDS TOOL
Community Voices in Action
Exciting things are happening across Fingal! The Community Departments dynamic rollout of the Place Standard Tool sees Corduff leading the way. The Place Standard Tool isn’t just a planning method—it’s a conversation starter, a collaboration platform, and a community-building tool. Through workshops, creative expression, and inclusive engagement, the people of Corduff are already shaping the future of their neighbourhood. From football clubs and youth groups to artists, educators, and older residents, this project is bringing voices together.
The rollout of the Place Standard Tool in Fingal has already seen strong momentum, driven by a collaborative and inclusive approach to community development. To date, Six targeted Place Standard Toolkit sessions have been completed, engaging over 100 participants from key local groups including Corduff FC, individuals from the disability and older person communities, and students from Rath Dara Community College.
These sessions have provided invaluable insights through open dialogue and shared experiences. Engagement has extended well beyond these groups, with a broad spectrum of stakeholders contributing to the process—ranging from youth and women’s groups, educators, and local organisations to sports clubs and community volunteers.
A particularly innovative aspect of the rollout has been the integration of concurrent art workshops supported by the Arts Department, which have created a welcoming, expressive space for community members to share their visions for Corduff. Equally vital has been the active collaboration across Fingal County Council departments. Teams from Parks and Operations, Active Travel, Environment and Climate, Healthy Ireland, Disability Services, Sports, Housing, Roads, and more have all come together to support this initiative.
This cross-sectoral effort ensures that insights gathered from the Place Standard Tool are embedded into wider planning and service delivery, making it a truly whole-of-community, whole-of-council approach to building better places.
