Young Athletes Shine at Fingal Athletics League Finals Day

The Fingal Athletics League Finals Day took place on 14th May, bringing together 2,500 enthusiastic young athletes from across the county for a day of energetic competition and celebration.

The Fingal Athletics League Finals Day took place on 14th May, bringing together 2,500 enthusiastic young athletes from across the county for a day of energetic competition and celebration. Held at ALSAA, the event marked the culmination of a successful athletics season for primary schools throughout Fingal.

Organised by Fingal County Council, the league encouraged participation from over 60 schools and thousands of children, allowing them to experience structured competition in a fun and supportive environment.

The atmosphere at the Finals Day was electric, as students cheered on their teammates and demonstrated impressive sportsmanship and effort across all age groups. For anyone who couldn’t attend on the day, the event was live-streamed by Full Time Productions, ensuring that fans from around the world could join in the excitement and support their local schools.

Mayor at Fingal Athletics League Final

Mayor of Fingal, Brian McDonagh, praised the event, saying:
"It was inspiring to see so many young people participating and enjoying sport. The Fingal Athletics League continues to play a vital role in promoting physical activity, inclusion, and community spirit in our schools."

The event also featured support from National Governing Bodies, creating a festive atmosphere for students, by facilitating come and try sports activities such as javelin, high jump, rugby, cricket and hockey.

The day concluded with trophy presentations, recognising the achievements of schools across multiple categories, including the Greenest School Award and Best Overall School. The Greenest School Award, in its second year, went to Balrothery NS.

Director of Services for Environment, Climate Action, Active Travel and Sport, David Storey, commented, "The Greenest School Award stands as a distinguished recognition of a school's dedication to environmental awareness and sustainable practices. I hope it inspires other schools to be more environmentally friendly."

The winner of our Best Overall School was St Brigid’s Ns, Castleknock. Noel Guinan, Meet Director of Morton Games, presented them with the award. This year’s winner is invited as a guest to the Morton Games on 11th July. For further details, visit: https://www.mortongames.ie.
