Sustainability Takes Centre Stage at Summer Concerts in Malahide Castle & Gardens

The highly anticipated Summer Concert Series at Malahide Castle & Gardens will kick off today, Tuesday 17th June, and run through Friday 4th July 2025, with seven major concerts taking place at the iconic venue (subject to licence).
In support of local environmental efforts, Fingal County Council, in partnership with concert promoters MCD Productions and Festival Republic, alongside HEINEKEN Ireland are introducing new sustainability initiatives during the 2025 concert season. Building on the momentum of the Fingal Reusable Cup Project launched in Malahide earlier this year which aims to eliminate disposable cups from the village, this summer's concerts will go a step further with no disposable cups being sold at the events.
As part of this climate-conscious initiative and in alignment with the principles of the Circular Economy, a Deposit and Return Reusable Cup Scheme will be trialled throughout the concert series.
Vendors serving HEINEKEN draught products will apply a small, refundable deposit to each drink served in a reusable cup. When attendees return their cups, their deposit will be fully reimbursed, encouraging a more responsible and sustainable festival experience.
Separate from the National Deposit and Return Scheme, all on-site vendors will fully comply with the Separate Collection (Deposit Return Scheme) Regulations 2024. Only drink bottles and cans featuring the Re-Turn logo will be sold at the venue.
Designated drop boxes will be available across the site for the collection of empty containers. Promoters are also partnering with local community groups and charities to support the collection and recycling effort during and after each event.
Minister for Climate, Environment and Energy, Darragh O’ Brien said, this initiative builds on the Fingal Reusable Cup Project I launched in Malahide last month. The effort to eliminate disposable cups from the Summer concerts is a brilliant example of innovative and impactful community action while enjoying concerts in the beautiful surrounds of Malahide Castle and Gardens.
David Storey, Director of Services for Environment, Climate Action, Active Travel and Sports at Fingal County Council said “As a local authority, it is our duty to lead by example, and this initiative marks a first for Ireland. We are proud to collaborate with MCD Productions and Festival Republic on a project that not only tackles single-use waste but also embodies the values of the circular economy—a core pillar of Fingal's Climate Action Plan. Changing Ireland’s disposable culture will take time, but this is an exciting and meaningful step forward.”
