Met Éireann has announced an Orange Weather Warning will be in place across 14 counties as Storm Eunice tracks across Ireland overnight. That warning includes all of Dublin and will be in effect from 3am until 3pm tomorrow (18 February).

As such, people across Fingal should be prepared for severe stormy weather, with a risk of coastal flooding at high tide early tomorrow morning and gusts of up to 130km/h possible. Disruption to travel can be expected.

With the Orange Warning in place, please be advised that it may be necessary for us to close our Recycling Centres in Coolmine and Estuary, as well as our Regional Parks. We will continue to monitor the situation throughout the night and as the day progresses, and will provide any further updates across our social media channels if these facilities are required to close.

In the meantime, we would urge people to follow public safety advice:

  • Stay away from all coastlines, cliffs and harbours for the duration of the Met Éireann warnings
  • All road users should be aware of the hazardous traveling conditions, and only necessary journeys should be undertaken. Motorists should slow down and be aware of the dangers of fallen trees and debris. High sided vehicles are particularly vulnerable during this time.
  • The public are warned electricity wires are always live, so never approach. If you see fallen or damaged wires, keep clear and phone ESB Networks immediately on 1800 372 999.
  • Don’t put yourself or others in danger!

In preparation for the approaching storm:

  • Fingal’s on-call crews are on standby in all areas as we approach the status orange warning.
  • We are keeping a close watch on all coastal areas, in particular those around Harbour Road in Skerries, Portrane and across the Howth Malahide area.
  • Stocks of sandbags are available at a number of our key locations if required. Please call our Customer Care Unit on 01890500 if you need any assistance.
  • One-tonne bags were installed today to close the Sea Wall at Sutton.

Reports on fallen trees and other debris from the storm can be made on www.fixyourstreet.ie or by calling 01890500. Follow our Social Media Channels for updates
