The Mayor of Fingal Cllr Adrian Henchy and Fingal Chief Executive AnnMarie Farrelly recently cut the ribbon on a new facility in Millennium Park specifically aimed at providing a quality safe space for teenagers and young adults visiting the park. Fingal County Council has also been redeveloping the Historic Arboretum in the Park and the event included storytelling at the new outdoor classroom area and tree planting where they were joined by local Councillors and the Fingal Operations team who have been working on the redevelopment.

The aim of the upgrade project at Millennium Park was to deliver an attractive and dynamic place for teenagers and young adults to meet with friends, to socialise and to engage in a range unstructured physical activity. The space contains the first purpose built competitive parkour facility in the country, a custom-made seating structure, chess tables, a music post and climbing poles.

Research has shown that the physical and mental wellbeing of young people is greatly enhanced by access to the outdoor, social contact and physical activity and Fingal County Council has plans to provide a wide range of such amenities throughout the county at suitable locations.

Mayor Henchy and Chief Executive Farrelly celebrated the redevelopment of the historic Arboretum in the Park, including its new outdoor classroom, seating and events area, with a story telling event organised by Fingal libraries. Children from local Clonsilla school  Scoil Oilibhéir were treated to a series of fascinating scéalta béaloideas, Irish legends and folklore as Gaeilge with storyteller Roisín Murphy.   The event also included the planting of the first of 40 new trees to be planted within the redeveloped Arboretum.
