Due to the orange alert issued for today between 12:00pm and 2:00pm, we have decided to place Prior Warning signage on all beaches under our responsibility, in order to ensure the safety of all bathers.

A prior warning had been issued on July 20, 2025 for Velvet Strand in Portmarnock due to anticipated heavy rainfall and potential water quality issues.

Status Orange Rain & thunderstorm warning for Dublin, Louth & Meath Valid: 00:00 21/07/25 to 14:00 21/07/25.

The advisory is used as a precautionary approach to protect bathers’ health by advising of possible short-term pollution events. While the expected duration in this instance is for five days, we will update this information as soon as possible. Resamples have been arranged.

Please see advice on the 48 hour rule with regard to swimming: https://www.beaches.ie/protect-your-health-with-the-48.../
