Poetry Day 2020 Competition

Fingal libraries invite you to enter this years poetry competition to celebrate “Poetry Day Ireland” on the 30th of April. This competition is open to a wide range of age groups including one special prize for a group entry. All types of groups are encouraged to take part, this could be a community group, a school group or even a family group, basically any group that is feeling creative.

The theme for the competition is “There will be Time …..” , the closing date for entries is Saturday the 11th of April.

Here is a list of prompts below to help you with your entry:

  • The quote is taken from T. S. Eliot’s “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.” Any response to or treatment of the style and themes in this poem will be very welcome.

  • In view of celebrations in the U.K. for the 250th anniversary of William Wordsworth’s birth, matters to do with Nature and durability might also be starting points for composition.

  • Given the differences between romanticism, modernism and postmodernism, entrants might also produce something they consider particularly “NEW.”

  • Otherwise, feel free to try whatever suggests itself on the general theme.

See poster for more details. Don’t be shy, give it a go!!
