Phase 2 of the Public Realm Works in Swords are now underway on North Street and this is expected to continue through to December 2026. North Street businesses remain open as usual throughout the works.
This phase of the works includes:
- Undergrounding overhead services
- New paving and footpaths
- New seating and landscaping
- Upgraded pedestrian crossings
Traffic Changes
To allow these works to take place:
- North Street is operating as a single northbound lane between Main Street and Fingal Community College.
- Southbound traffic can still access properties as far as Fingal Community College, but cannot proceed onto Main Street
- Northbound traffic is not affected.
- Pedestrian access between Main Street and North Street will be maintained at all times.
- Diversions via Watery Lane or the R132 are in place for southbound traffic on North Street wishing to reach Main Street
North Street businesses remain open as usual throughout the works.
Bus Service Changes
Southbound buses (towards Dublin City) are being diverted off North Street during the works.
The following stops on North Street have been temporarily closed:
- Outside Des Kelly Carpets
- Outside Carnegie Court Hotel
Passengers can instead use:
- The temporary stop on Balheary Road opposite the Fire Station, or
- Existing southbound stops on Main Street
Northbound buses (towards Balbriggan/Portrane) are not affected, and the stop outside Swords Cycle Centre remains in service.
We appreciate your patience while these improvements are carried out and will work to minimise disruption wherever possible.
