New Climate Action Plan 2024-29 demonstrates Fingal’s continued commitment to climate action

Fingal's Climate Action Plan (2024-2029) sets out mitigation and adaptation measures, to create a low carbon and climate resilient County.

A new Climate Action Plan for Fingal has been launched that outlines innovative climate adaptation and mitigation actions which the Council intends to take over the next five-years as it strives to make the county a more climate resilient region.

The 2024-2029 plan, which demonstrates Fingal’s continued commitment to climate action, includes six key theme areas, namely: Energy & Buildings; Transport; Flood Resilience; Nature Based Solutions; Circular Economy & Resource Management; and Community Engagement.

Mayor of Fingal County Council, Councillor Adrian Henchy stated: “It's important that Fingal remains at the forefront of climate action, which is why I'm delighted to be able to launch a plan that continues our efforts to address climate change and tackle those conditions that can damage our environment. I'm particularly pleased to see the inclusion of the community engagement chapter in this iteration of the plan, which reflects our commitment to fostering a sense of shared responsibility and collaboration with different stakeholders across the county.”

Director of Environment, Climate Action, Active Travel and Sports Department, Fingal County Council, David Storey said: “I’m delighted that the Fingal Climate Action Plan 2024-2029 has been approved. This plan sets out how Fingal County Council proposes to deliver ambitious, measurable, and effective climate actions through engagement, capacity building and leadership. Fingal County Council will continue to support and work in partnership with the Dublin Local Authorities, CARO and Dublin’s Energy Agency, CODEMA to ensure we take a shared approach to climate action”.

Fingal's five -year plan is aligned to the Government’s overall National Climate Objective as set out in the national Climate Action Plan, which seeks to pursue and achieve, by no later than the end of 2050, the transition to a climate resilient, biodiversity rich, environmentally sustainable and climate neutral economy.
